are pleased to be offering RYA powerboat training courses,
at all levels.
Courses can take place onboard one of our training Boats
based in Hythe or onboard your own boat.
Whether you are looking to familiarise yourself with
the boat controls or refresh previously gained experience,
we can help you achieve your goal.
With
our experienced and friendly instructors, we will ensure
your safety at all times as well as making your course
enjoyable and interesting. Whilst on your course there
will be opportunities to visit some of the many beauty
spots in the Solent.
Courses
are run all throughout the year, during the week and
weekends.
SYLLABUS
Aqua Waves Introduction to Power Boating
Half day course that assesses level of competence and
gives a taster to what is involved with handling a Power
Boat.
Level 1
Introduction
to Power Boat Handling
A one day introduction to handling a powerboat.
A short theory session is followed by some practical
experience on the
water. No previous experience necessary
Level
2
Power Boat Handling
Two days split between classroom lessons and going to
sea, providing the
basic knowledge to be able to safely take a power boat
out into coastal waters.
No previous experience necessary. The ICC can be applied
for on successful completion of this course without
any further testing.
Intermediate
Course
A two day theory/practical course covering the practical
use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal
waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational
techniques. Candidates should be competent to the
standard of National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 and
a basic knowledge of navigation.
A progression from Level 2; introducing pilotage, navigation
and boat handling techniques for planning boats on coastal
waters by day. Able to plan and execute short coastal
passages by day.
Advanced
Course
Course for leisure and professional boaters wanting
to undertake more adventurous trips in small powerboats.
Candidates should be competetant to the standard of
the intermediate Powerboat certificate with a thorough
knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level
of the Day Skipper shore based certificate and are required
to hold a First Aid and VHF operators certificate Includes
pilotage, navigation and boat handling techniques for
planning boats on coastal waters by day and night. Able
to plan and execute coastal trips including return to
a familiar port by night. Two days including at least
one night navigation exercise.
International
Certificate of Competence Test
A practical test taking approximately 2 hours giving
you the opportunity to demonstrate your abilities, in
order to obtain your ICC. You will need to have previous
experience of boat handling to the standard of the Level
2 syllabus to be able to successfully complete the exercises.
